Shared Decision Making for Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) Surgery in the MHS
Presently, within the military health system (MHS), the practice of shared decision-making for elective surgeries is largely absent. True shared decision-making, as conceptualized by its developers, is seldom observed. Instead, patients often proceed with recommendations solely because they originate from the surgeon. However, the principles of shared decision-making dictate that patients must be thoroughly informed about both the benefits and risks associated with their options, empowering them to make well-informed decisions. This initiative aims to utilize preliminary data to assess the feasibility of integrating decision aids into prospective clinical trials.
